His Excellency, Mr. David Usher, Ambassador of Canada to Ethiopia, paid a visit to Jimma University on February 20, 2014. The purpose of the visit was to strengthen the collaboration between Universities and/or other institutions in his home country and JU.
During his visit a short meeting was held with the university’s top managements, and college/institute representatives. Opened with the presentation on brief overview of the university, a formal discussion was lasted for about an hour at the mini-senate hall in the main campus of the university. The points raised circulated around the possible alliances between the two parties for experience sharing, academics, research and community service.
The ambassador strongly appreciated the education philosophy of JU (i.e., the Community Based Education (CBE)) and inquired the outputs and challenges of exercising such an approach in a teaching-learning process; in response to which reasonable clarifications were given by Dr. Fikre Lemessa, President of Jimma University.
The meeting was wrapped up by an encouraging agreement to work on future collaboration between the Canadian Institutions and Jimma University.
